Last weekend, University of California Riverside hosted its 3rd Annual Dance Marathon.  Below is an excerpt from a letter written by the director of UCR’s Guardian Scholars Program:

As I had hoped, your exceptionally generous gift of 5 thousand dollars ignited a philanthropic fire across our student population and rendered DM a roaring success.  All told, after more than 400 folks came through the doors between 6pm and midnight, we raised over 25,000 on our own.  Add to that your 5 thousand dollar gift and the Wingate family Foundation’s 20,000 dollar challenge, and our DM event raised more than FIFTY thousand dollars! This is truly awe-inspiring… that our undergraduate students can were able to mobilize such an incredibly successful (and fun) fundraiser for our Foster Youth Support Services and the Guardian Scholars program it subsumes. We are so grateful for your support… Over the course of this fundraising campaign, tentative donors took a critically important first step toward us when they learned that their gift would be doubled in impact. Next year, I have no doubt they will step ever closer. Foster Care Counts has had a huge impact on our kids, and an enduring impact on our program. Thank you so much for helping to take a stand for educational access and equity.  We could not have done this out you! Rock on UCR GS!!!!
