Foster Care Counts is comprised of concerned volunteers who believe foster youth deserve more attention and support from our community than they have received. We aim to improve the lives of children and teens in foster care, those transitioning out of the foster system, as well as support families who offer their homes to foster youth. We provide funding and volunteer talent to established foster care organizations through:

Financial Support
Operational Participation
Public Exposure

Our Progress Through Donations

Through partnerships with proven leaders in foster care, we strive to amplify potential outcomes for the most promising programs in our community.

Since launching in February 2012, Foster Care Counts has been banging the drum in support of those in foster care in Los Angeles and throughout California. Our volunteers have raised funds and participated in numerous ways to support organizations that help foster youth thrive. We know that everyone can do something, no matter how small, to help these kids. Each of us can make a difference.

Foster Mother's Day Celebration

Our volunteers and partners give countless hours of energy, talent, and resources to create our annual Foster Mother’s Day celebration. This May 8, 2016, hundreds of foster families will be treated to a day of delicious food, games and entertainment, family photos, stylists in our overflowing clothing boutique, rock star treatment in the beauty spa, and more. We are grateful to the dedication of our hundreds of volunteers for making each Foster Mother’s Day Celebration special. And special thanks to our corporate partners: Nestle, Wolfgang Puck Catering, Paul Mitchell, Mission Transportation and Jouer Cosmetics.

Some comments from those who attended last year’s event:

“[This year] we brought…100 people…and they had such a good time, and kept asking, “Are they doing it again?”

“Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this event, we are truly grateful.”

“I had my nails done in sparkly pink and the whole event gave me a lift. It was so kind of you to host us!”

“It was refreshing to be appreciated for what [parents] we really are.”

“My children were overwhelmed with joy”

“My daughter was able to get a picture of her whole family, which we had none of us all together. It was wonderful.”

“Everyone was kind and friendly. The boutique was so generous! …and I got a great haircut.”

One Laptop Per Foster Youth

Research shows that access to technology and computer literacy are success factors that greatly contribute to foster youth completing college and successfully transitioning to adulthood. In collaboration with Los Angeles County’sDepartment of Children and Family Services and, Foster Care Counts has donated more than 1,400 laptops to college-bound foster youth since 2013.

In addition, we’ve supplied computers to LA City College Guardian Scholars program, LA Trade Tech Guardian Scholars Program, and California Youth Connection’s new Los Angeles office.  Learn more about how you can give a laptop here, and visit our YouTube Channel.

Goods For Grades

Goods for Grades is our "pop up" mobile boutique for local foster youth Guardian Scholars. In between classes, students snack, relax, and shop for casual and professional attire. Volunteers serve as hosts and personal shoppers, encouraging and recognizing students for the hard work.
